Developing clean power and water projects to affect transformational social impact
At Transformative Projects, we believe that sustainable access to clean water and electricity provide the foundation on which an evolving society can be built. We develop power and water systems using renewable energy, and collaborate with partners to holistically support the communities we serve by assessing and addressing all of their most basic societal needs - water, power, agriculture, housing, education, and medical clinics.
Our dynamic team has vast experience in the socially critical infrastructure sectors of power, water, agriculture, education, housing, and healthcare in developing economies.
To effectively empower a community, solutions need to be delivered to meet the most basic needs at scale. Electricity powers a community and unlocks investment opportunities in water, agriculture, housing, education, and medical services, which all rely on electricity to yield social and economic returns for investors. Our team has a wealth of experience in developing clean energy projects in developing countries to ensure successful delivery of the rural electrification projects we pursue. We also have a wide range of expertise that spans water, sanitation, agriculture, housing, and medical clinics globally.
83% of the world's 733 million people who lack access to electricity live in Sub-Saharan Africa, where the number of unconnected people has increased since 2010. Moreover, about 80% of people without access to electricity live in rural areas; building traditional grids using traditional fuel sources are neither economical nor environmentally sustainable for serving rural communities. To solve energy poverty, we need to utilize innovative technologies, financing, and project structures to align interests and facilitate successful execution in the most challenging environments. Electrifying a vulnerable community is the first step to breaking the cycle of poverty.
Transformative Projects Co-Founder and Co-President, Claudio Pedretti, delivered an enlightening TEDx Talk entitled "Access to Energy: Be the Light of Progress" at TEDx Spoleto, where he shared his views on why rural electrification using clean energy should be a global priority.
In his address, Claudio painted a scene of what life is like for those without reliable access to electricity by sharing the plight of fishermen and farmers in a community without power. The fishermen expertly fish from the sea, and farmers grow crops, but both have a very short window to sell their goods before the food rots; accordingly, they must accept low prices or risk not selling their goods at all. Claudio also recounted his own traumatic story of having broken his leg in Angola, detailing his harrowing experience of hospital treatment without electricity.
To conclude his talk, Claudio highlighted three elements required to solve energy poverty - dedicated technologists, specialized companies and workforces, and focused capital. He also cited French philosopher Edgar Morin, and his observation of the inter-dependence among all human beings; it is the spirit of Ubuntu - "I am because you are."
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." -African proverb
We work with local partners to ensure smooth project delivery, and with best-in-class organizations that deliver power, water, agricultural, housing, educational, and medical solutions to fully support the communities we serve.
We develop rural electrification projects using renewable energy. Beyond electrification, we further assess each community's needs for water, agriculture, housing, education, and healthcare, to engage partners we trust to help meet every social infrastructure need. This holistic support of collaborative empowerment is transformative, and helps to break the cycle of poverty.
We are developing projects to provide electricity to one million people in Mozambique, assessing projects in East Africa, and open to work anywhere we can make an impact.
You can invest in our projects! We welcome engagement with anyone and everyone who wants to help bring electricity to vulnerable communities across the world. Contact us to learn more.
